about

Today mark's the exact 50th anniversary of the release of one of my favorite albums of all-time, The Beatles "HELP!" soundtrack, which contains arguably one of my favorite Beatles song of all-time, "You're Going To Lose That Girl." Although it isn't the most musically complex or lyrically artistic song they have, it is, in my opinion, the embodiment of a perfect pop song.

As many people know, my father and uncles have starred in the longest running Beatles tribute show, "Long Live The Beatles," since the mid-70's, so by the time I was born in the mid-80's, I was experiencing live performances of Beatles songs pretty much every week. I played "Twist And Shout" on drums for the talent show in kindergarten. The first songs I learned on guitar at the age of 10 were Beatles songs. And by the age of 14, filling in "as Ringo" became my summer job. So every note of The Beatles catalog has been engrained into my brain since the womb. That's left me with a bit of a love/hate relationship with Beatles covers. They really did them all pretty damn perfectly the first time, so why try to top them? Well, you can't. But you can try to make them your own. (Perfect example is Stevie Ray Vaughan's take on "Taxman"...completely his own, without losing what makes that song so great.) So, this month I'm going to put my humble little stamp on four different tunes from the greatest band in the history of time, and my own personal biggest influence. They won't top the originals, but they're damn fun to re-IMAGINE...see what I did there?

Happy 50th, "HELP!"
